Boys loved the first evening when my husband brought out the Advent calendar. Sadly I wasn't there to see it as it was my late day at work. My husband hid their wrapped PJs and showed them how the Advent calendar first day had a special slip of paper tucked in side. N opened it and my husband helped him "read" the picture (which was of a package). He said they were supposed to go find the packages. After a couple hints, they found their packages (1 each with a set of the exact same PJs), opened them and then wore their PJs to bed. A successful first night of Advent.
Next day, we had them open up their day in the morning - S's turn. They were going to the Bob Baker Marionettes' show of the Nutcracker. They definitely didn't get the "puppet show" concept when they opened the day's note but when they went with E, they had a great time. S was completely enthralled; N pretty much so, although he really didn't like that it was dark between segments. That said, I think they both asked to go again sometime which is a success in my book.
Day 3 - they didn't open up their day - N's turn - until after nap. We were going to go walk the DWP Light Parade (just down the street) together. A neighbor joined us. Surprisingly my first time going to the Light Parade - I typically avoid it because of the traffic but this year they slatted the first week for walking only, no cars period. Right up my alley. S was exceptionally tired but I think they both enjoyed it.
