The boys are taking their second summer of swim lessons. The lessons are "private" 15 minute sessions, MWF for a couple of months. ("Private" in the sense each child is one-on-one with his own instructor but there is more than one set of instructor/child in the pool at any given time.) Last year, by the end of the year, the boys were gliding (hands connect and in front of them, diving style) from the step to their instructor and also feel really comfortable putting their head in the water.
So, this year that's where they started. They've made so much progress in just two or so weeks' worth of lessons. S is kicking really well, wears little goggles (by choice since his eyes are more sensitive) and puts his head in the water. He's "swam" a couple feet already. N was too funny - he figured out that when he was in the little pool he could reach the bottom of the pool this year since he's so much taller. So, although, he "swam" once and saw how to put it all together, he's been putting his feet down on the bottom rather than kick. So, his teacher (Rachel) decided to move him to the bigger pool where he wouldn't reach the bottom. Yesterday was the first day of this and we all were anxious to see if he'd go in the bigger pool without objection.
Sure enough he did. And did great. He's swimming (so to speak) - he's big issue now is he just keeps his head down and swims but doesn't come up for air. That's not all - he asked Rachel if he could jump off the diving board - WHAT?! You go, N! Rachel was a bit surprised but said sure... so N did. And wanted to again... so N did. And wanted to again, but this time Rachel said they needed to get back to their lesson.
