Happy New Year!

Wow - December sure flew by... actually 2010 is what flew by!

Catch up on Christmas - last post I mentioned three things I was hoping to do before Christmas. I only was able to do one of the three - go see the Nutcracker. Between a ton of rainy weather and two sick boys (for once N stayed sick a lot longer than S), things pretty much shut down the week or so before Christmas.

I did make a really cute gift for each of their preschool friends - a great idea I found from Woman's Day magazine. It was a bag containing gingerbread cookie mix, a small container of molasses and a gingerbread man cookie cutter on the outside of the bag. Wound up making them for the neighbors as well.

Otherwise, the boys were very excited about Christmas Eve and Christmas. Just S went to the see the Nutcracker cause his brother was still sick. So my mom, S and I went and I asked one of the boys' preschool friends' mom if she wanted to go with us (and her daughter). She did and S was so excited to go with his friend. It was very cute to watch.

They kept wanting me to tell them how many more days until Christmas. When it was finally here, they were very excited and so looking forward to Santa! J wound up getting them an electric steam engine (plus tracks) and set it up for them after they went to sleep Christmas Eve. They were both so excited - and S even commented on how nice it was that Santa set it up for us and everything! Santa also got the boys a couple of Lego (Star Wars) kits.

Luckily for us, things weren't completely out of control. The boys got a lot, don't get me wrong, but it didn't seem to be too much (definitely scaled back since their first Christmas!). We opened stockings first and then had a nice breakfast together. Then we opened the presents under the tree. It was really a nice morning.

After that, the boys played with their new toys while I started getting lunch together. Eventually, J's mom, sister and kids arrived. The kids had some more presents to open and then we all played Mexican Train (a really fun domino game my mom brought and taught to the boys). It was a wonderful day. After J's family left, we all napped until well after 5! We were all a bit out of it but went right back to playing Mexican Train. Had a late dinner of leftovers and all generally went to bed too late!

The next day, my mom, I and the boys went down to LaCosta for a couple of days. We drove down Sunday afternoon and just played around at the hotel. Monday AM, we went to Legoland (it was super crowded but we still had a nice time). We came back to the hotel and let the boys swim in the hotel's (heated) pool. Room service dinner and some very wild children and we all went to sleep eventually. Next day, after a room service breakfast and checking out, we headed over to SeaLife (Legoland's next door aquarium) and had a wonderful time. It was the boys' first time there and they really seemed to like it. We drove home (and hit some traffic) after lunch there.

New Year's Eve, J brought the boys to my office for lunch. It was fine to have them there but they were soooo shy! That night we went to a twins' club friend's place for a family-friendly party (we celebrated NYE at 9PM - EST's New Year's). Had a great time and went to bed too late! The next morning, bright and early, we headed over to watch the Rose Bowl Parade (we had stadium seats) and had a great time as well.
