Joy in their Happiness

Friday was our usual date-night and I had S. We went to a place called Carney's. It is a hamburger place that happen to be in an old train. Food isn't anything special but I figured S would get a kick out of the train part and since he said he wanted hamburgers that night, it was as good as any night to take him there. He loved the train. He loved eating in the train. And, he loved his ketchup. He was so cute to watch - I put some ketchup in a little plastic cup for him. He'd take a French fry and a normal-sized fry would wind up getting it dipped at least 4 times. Each time he dipped, he'd dip his fry so dainty as to keep his finger clean and then he'd take a little nibble. Repeat many times. He was in heaven. We decided his perfect dinner would be a bowlful of ketchup for dinner and unlimited ice cream for dessert.

Saturday we went down to Carlsbad and met our friends down there for a day at the beach. Both boys love the beach. It makes for a perfect day as they are so happy, there is little fighting and besides dealing with all the sand (afterward) it really is an easy day. Yesterday was slightly different in that our friends brought a set of boogie boards (they have twin boys that just turned 5 and like to use the boards now). Once N saw those, he was hooked and he hadn't even tried them out yet. He tried one out - he and J went out in the water just a little bit (water was really only up to N's thigh at most), J would position N on the boogie board (laying face down) and then when a wave came, he'd ride it into shore. While J was busy playing with S once time, I watched N from the sand (he didn't know I was watching) and he took the board out, positioned the board the right direction, got on it, waited patiently (board was floating around) and then eventually the wave would bring him in. My little guy was boogie boarding by himself. Wow. And he had the biggest grin the whole time.

Dinner: left overs - scrambled eggs, broccoli (S) / kale salad (N), zucchini muffin, peach/orange/strawberry smoothies, and apple.

Books: Cars (N), 100th Customer (S)
