Peaches, Playdough, and Pumpkins

This last weekend we went peach picking with our friends Brendan and Jim from music class. We were able to pile Brendan and his car seat in the back row with the boys and Jim in the front seat with J & I after class and off we went. An hour plus later, we arrived at the peach farm. Peach picking is definitely easier (i.e., easier and faster to get large quantities) than raspberry, blueberry or strawberry picking. It was so sweet to see that N go pick a peach right off the tree and proceed to eat the whole thing right then. We wound up picking 60 plus pounds of peaches between the 6 of us. Brendan and Jim took a couple of bags and we took home the rest (N was so worried we weren't going to have enough after giving the bags to Jim). We came home with about 45 pounds of peaches. WOW! So, we've proceeded to have our own peach festival of sorts this week. I made peach butter and froze that, peach muffins, peach pie, peach ice cream, peach shortcakes, and sliced up a bunch of peach chunks and froze those. When we voted our favorite last night, the boys both chose the ice cream as their favorite (with no hesitation with their choice).

Monday evening the boys mentioned they wanted to do play dough the next day so yesterday afternoon when I got home, we brought out the play dough. We hadn't done that in quite some time. I brought out the brand new little containers of all the fancy colors. They were so excited. Then I had the great idea of having them decorate their pumpkins with the play dough. So they did. Each had his own take and their pumpkins turned out really cute. Not included in the pictures is the fact that S decided his pumpkin needed a purple butt and so he added that to the back of his pumpkin and of course N had to follow suit. They both took such pride in their pumpkins so they are now on the fireplace hearth and we'll probably keep them there until Halloween. (N's is on the left; S' on the right)

Tomorrow AM, we head off on our cruise (sans kids!). It is really our first time to both be away from the boys for a night, let alone 4 nights. When we mentioned the trip to the boys for the first time this last weekend, they were more bummed that they weren't going to see Grandpa and Gigi too. I think it helps that my mom is coming to stay with them for the weekend so they are excited about that. Probably a good age to be able to handle this... I hope.

Dinner: Pumpkin ravioli with sage butter and some chopped chicken, broccoli, peach shortcakes
Books: Miss Spider book (S), Richard Scarry's What do People Do (two chapters, N)
