Spectacles

So yesterday S went to the eye doctor for the first time. His pediatrician recommended we do that after his very rough one at the pediatrician's office didn't go so great. We found him a children's eye doctor and his appointment was finally here yesterday. J took him. What a trooper - they dialated his eyes so they could get the correct prescription. J said the hardest part was that he could tell S was memorizing the "test" when he did it with his "good" eye and then just repeating the same order when he was testsed for his "bad" eye. He was doing it because he just doesn't like to feel like he is failing. Luckily the eye doctor was really nice and didn't point out when he didn't get the letters right (because he couldn't see them clearly). So one eye is good and one eye is not so good in the sense that he's gotten used to using the good eye since it has better vision. So over time the not so good eye gets worse and worse. The solution: he wears a patch over the good eye to force the less good eye to learn to work again and he wears glasses at the same time so he can see clearly using the less good eye. Hopefully over time, the not so good eye will improve and the vision will fall in line between the two eyes.

He came home after his appointment and he was soo sleepy and worn out. I guess it took a lot out of him. But, he never complained about any of it, including the patch that was currently on his eye. It must have been rough as he had the patch but didn't yet have the glasses so he was forced to use his one less good eye, which would mean everything would look pretty fuzzy.

Before dinner, he and J headed off to Len's Crafters to pick out glasses. They came home, we had dinner and had a celebratory cookie to celebrate S getting glasses and made it a celebration of sorts. After dinner, he and J headed back to Len's Crafters to pick up the finished glasses. He looked so cute when he walked in - older but still so sweet.

Guess who is the most bummed? N - he wants glasses now too. He was so sad to be different from S; he told me that.

Dinner: Spaghetti with meat sauce, green beans, cherries and PB cookies

Stories: Star Wars book (S); I can't recall N's right now.

Play: Not much play time for S since he was picking out and picking up his glasses; N played out in the back digging in the dirt while I kept him company; Legos.
